Welcome to Minnesota American Legion Boys State!

The Boys State program is an exercise in applied government. High school seniors from across Minnesota gather at SMSU for one week to learn about government, patriotism, and citizenship in a hands-on mock government.

Quick facts:

  • The program runs June 15th - 21st, 2008
  • American Legion posts choose the boys that go to Boys State
  • Program entry is highly competitive, you will be working with the best of the best
  • The program fee is paid by the sponsoring American Legion post: students only have to cover pocket money, and perhaps transportation
  • There are scholarships available at Boys State, including the Samsung scholarship, worth up to $20,000

There is more detailed information available on this site, so please look around!

WELCOME!

Welcome to The American Legion Boys State of Minnesota website. We are excited about our 60th session and our 2nd year on the beautiful Southwest Minnesota State University campus in Marshall, Minnesota. The 2008 session of the Minnesota Boys State is June 15 -21. This year we are expecting over 450 delegates! I would like for you to be part of this year's class.

The purpose of this site is to better explain what you can expect from your Boys State experience. If I can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.

The efforts of many people and organizations are necessary to provide such a program for more than 450 of Minnesota's best. A dedicated staff of volunteers organize the program and guide the delegates throughout the week. In addition, many American Legion Posts sponsor delegates and financially support Boys State. The gratitude of the MN Boys State staff goes out to all.

Sincerely,

Michael M. Bredeck
The American Legion Boys State Director of Minnesota
