General Information
- Only boys with outstanding qualifications will be considered for selection. See Eligibility List
- Detailed instructions will be sent to each boy.
- Every Boys Stater will have an integral part of the program.
- Some type of recreation will be provided every day.
- Keys MUST BE surrendered by those who drive after car is properly parked in the college parking lot.
- A Boys State choir and band are organized for the week, with a concert on Friday night. Boys may participate in both. Band participants are requested to bring their own instruments. EXCEPT bass horns and drums, which will be furnished.
- A daily paper will be written and printed by Boys Staters.
- On Saturday morning, two Senators will be named by Boys State staff. They will attend The American Legion Boys Nation scheduled to be held in Washington, D.C. in July, sponsored and expenses paid by The American Legion.
- A third boy will be chosen by the staff and named Saturday morning to receive the "Lee Krough Director's Award", which includes a $250 scholarship.
- A fourth boy will be chosen to receive the "Ambrose Koll Award", which includes a $200 scholarship.
- The Governor elected by the Boys Staters is an automatic candidate for the $250 "Norm Arveson Memorial" Boys State Scholarship.
- The Boy Stater with the highest test score will receive the "Dorothy A. Ferguson Memorial Scholarship" worth $75.00.
- One Boy Stater, a descendant of a wartime veteran, will be eligible for the "Samsung Scholarship". Applications will be judged by a committee of counselors. The winner will advance to National for final selections. Approximately $300,000 is given out each year.
- Boys Staters should not bring along valuable jewelry or other articles of high value, including excess money. Dorm rooms will NOT BE LOCKED. MN American Legion Boys State is not responsible for any items lost or stolen.
- Dress code on campus must be adhered to. Boys will wear shoes, long pants (jeans or khakis are appropriate) and Boys State T-shirts to programs, and be neat in appearance, casual attire. Dress suits will not be needed.
- Each Boys Stater may be requested to report his impression of Boys State to his sponsoring Post upon his return home. POSTS, please note.
- Visitors are cordially invited and encouraged to attend Boys State at any time. However, visitors who will be present at meal time will be charged for their meal.
- Any boy who violates the rules laid down for the administration of Boys State or who fails to cooperate in accordance with his signed statement shall be subject to dismissal without refund of sponsor's fee.
- Any violations will be dealt with by Campus Security.
The Higher Education Act Amendments of 1976 (P.L. 94-482, approved October 12, 1976)--specifically exempts Boys/Girls State and Nation from provisions of Title IX's 1972 Education Amendments barring discrimination on the basis of sex.
